Billy Baker
South Africa
Billy was christened Methodist, raised Pentecostal (Assembly of God), but after serious reflection and studying the Scriptures, Billy is at heart Presbyterian. While raised in Church from a young age, at 14 he came to a personal knowledge and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ
He was exposed to the Westminster Standards for the first time at the age of 31 in 2001, when he arrived in Cape Town to work at Frontline Fellowship, a local mission that was doing work in the Sudan. Billy met Charmaine, who was already a missionary at Frontline Fellowship, on 12th January 2001. He asked Charmaine to marry him on 14th April 2001; they married on the 7th July 2001.
They have worked together for the Baptist mission organisations: Multi Ministries and Cape Missions International, and at a retirement home -Plumstead Rusoord. After that, Billy worked for Christian Book Discounters promoting Church Discipleship resources.
In recent years, 2021 – 2023, Billy and Charmaine were involved with the African Christian Democratic Party, due in large part, to their pro-life and pro-marriage views, not to mention their desire for Christian principles in government.
After leaving the ACDP in September of 2024, Billy committed himself to his calling of full-time evangelism and outreach and Church planting, as there is an urgent need for a Presbyterian Church, as in the original sense of the word, in South Africa. He believes that the Westminster Standards have an important role to play in the discipleship of Christians in our world today.
More importantly, the work of the Great Commission in its entirety needs to be carried out to all people. Billy has observed that many churches are accomplishing the first part of the Commission in making disciples: baptising them in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit, but failing to effectively teach all that Jesus has COMMANDED us to do. This being evident in the general lack of knowledge of the Ten Commandments in South African society, but especially among Christians today.
Delighting in God’s Law personally, Billy enthusiastically teaches the Law to everyone that will hear or read. Inspired by Jesus words: “Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of Heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of Heaven.” Matthew 5:19
Billy and Charmaine are praying for heaven sent revival in their City of Cape Town, South Africa.
May God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit hear our prayer as we go about declaring the Good News of Salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ.
