Disaster Relief update!
Over the weekend we received an urgent need for deep
freezers. We have so many families with young ones who have been impacted by Hurricane Helene. With your continued support we were able to supply 10 deep freezers to families in need of storing milk for their little ones.
We can’t say thank you enough for the outpouring of love and support you all have continued to show. Please pray for our team as we try to meet the needs of our community. “And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me. ’”Matthew 25:40 ESV

Hello All,
The first email I sent out had some issues with the photos not displaying. Hopefully this works ok now.
I have just returned from Boone, N C. where I served as a volunteer for Samaritans Purse disaster relief. I left on Wednesday and returned on Sunday. It was disheartening to see the devastation throughout Watauga county. This is one of the hardest hit counties in NC. It was a blessing to be part of a team working to make roads passable, mitigating the damage to homes, and giving people hope. Each team consisted of 15- 40 people. We were part of a larger group of 750 to 1500 volunteers working all over the county on a daily basis. Some pictures from this past week are below.
Your donations to this ministry help to make trips like this possible. Please donate if you feel led to do so.

Today we are focusing on a family who is starting over in their home after the flooding. Your continued support of our Disaster Relief fund is the reason why we will be able to answer these needs. Be in prayer for our team as we try to help this sweet family rebuild.

October 19- Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts Update

Yesterday we were able to accomplish so much thanks to your donations and support! Here is a brief update on our Disaster Relief efforts:
-We were able to distribute 50 charcoal grills, 50 bags of charcoal, 100 sleeping bags & 240 blankets to Hurricane Helene victims.
-We visited a local church in Washington County, TN that sits close to communities that were devastated by Hurricane Helene. It was such a blessing to be able to meet with their volunteers, learn about additional needs and provide some much needed supplies to them.
-We met with our friends from Stephens Valley Church in Nashville, TN. They brought a truckload of donations and we were able to deliver them to Washington County, TN as well.

Today, October 19, we are delivering more loads of supplies to Erwin, TN, another devastated area. We will provide additional updates soon. We are hearing that heaters & hand warmers are currently a big need and we are working to fulfill as many of those needs as quickly as possible.

This make-shift cross was made and placed beside a bridge that had collapsed in Greeneville, TN when Hurricane Helene struck. Our Lord brings hope for the hopeless and rest to the weary. Our God reigns.

The next few days we ask you to lift us up in prayer as we prepare to drop off donations to our brothers and sisters in need. Thank you ALL as you continue to generously give to our Hurricane Relief fund. We can supply aid to our neighbors because of YOU.

Thank you to Bristol Pediatric Associates, PC for answering the call and donating supplies to our Disaster Response. What a blessing it is to see our community come together to help our neighbors who have lost so much. Galatians 6:2

Early this morning, we received a message about a family in need of a deep freezer. Their home in Elizabethton had been flooded. They had lost almost everything, other than a few things they were able to salvage from their home. Their deep freezer was floating in their home, still plugged in, during the flood and it was a complete loss including the food inside. This family has two young children, one of them is 4 and has major medical needs. He is 4 and takes tube feeds. The mother in the family cannot work due to the ongoing medical needs of her son. With the donations you have given, REF was able to purchase a new deep freezer for this family and deliver it to their temporary home. They plan to rebuild their home over the coming months, but in the meantime are working to find a temporary housing solution that also meets their son’s medical needs. With no flood insurance on their home, the rebuilding process will be a long difficult journey but this young family is determined to make the best of their situation and was so grateful that REF was able to meet this urgent need.

September 30, 2024 Update

To our REF Family,

We write you in a most urgent way, from the heart of Appalachia to communicate what has just happened.

While all eyes were originally fixed on Florida, expecting it to be the main recipient of Helene’s fury, it was sadly central Appalachia that was caught in the grip of this deadly disaster.

In fact, estimates are that the total rainfall on the east of the Mississippi River, for the past 5 days alone was over 40 Trillion gallons of water.

20 Trillion gallons of that fell across Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, North and South Carolina.

If that wasn’t bad enough, the Eyewall of Helene stabbed through Appalachia, with wind gusts of over 60 miles per hour, leaving millions without power for days(some still do not have electricity, or basic needs). Entire roads and historic towns have been washed away.

The combination of a month-long drought, followed by this wall of water, accompanied by high-speed winds was a deadly cocktail, inflicting maximum damage.  The death toll has now surpassed 100, and will likely end up being multiples of that number, by the time all is known.

Allow us to say this plainly, brothers and sisters in Christ:

Central Appalachia is experiencing historic, acute suffering right this very moment, and they need your help.

While federal agencies are largely missing in action at this pivotal moment, the Church is on the front lines to boldly and generously fill this leadership gap in disaster relief.

We here at REF are issuing a clarion call right now to Christ’s Church, to remember our spiritual family, to pray for those who’ve lost loved ones, homes, or livelihoods, and to generously donate whatever you can to our Disaster Relief Fund, to help alleviate the suffering of those still in dire need.

If you wish to make a check gift, please make it out to “Disaster Relief” in the memo line.  You can also give online through our website, on the Disaster Relief Link.  The recipients of the donations are still being determined, and as we finalize the details, we will keep you further posted about where specifically the funds are going, and what Kingdom work they’ll be used for.

No donation is too small at this critical time.

Our Prayer at REF is the prayer of Habakkuk for all these families and souls in anguish:

“Oh Lord…In wrath, remember mercy.”

We stand ready to send out all aid the Church can send.

Won’t you help us?

Your prayers are greatly coveted, so please pour them out upon us as we serve you all.  God be with you.
